What is Movement Building & Community Organizing?
What is movement building?
Movement building is core to reproductive justice and for Latina Institute it is a community-centered approach to social change, recognizing that our work is part of a larger movement for racial and social justice. It centers the operationalization of transformational long-term strategies over incremental change strategies. To advance these strategies, our staff and activists focus on relationship building, power building and leadership development of those closest to the margins. We apply an intersectional analysis to our public policy advocacy, political and reproductive health/rights education, and civic engagement campaigns.
Why movement build?
Our community has the inherent power, regardless of race, gender, immigration status, ability to vote or speak English or any other category used to divide us. To unleash the leadership potential of our base, leadership development is at the core of our work.
