Statements from Charo Valero, Florida State Manager, and Lupe M. Rodríguez, Executive Director, National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice, on Florida’s Amendment 4
We are deeply disappointed that we didn’t secure the votes to amend Florida’s constitution to restore abortion access. Rather than allowing Florida voters to decide for themselves whether to make their own decisions about their health, extreme politicians launched relentless attacks on this entire ballot initiative process, including misleading voters about this amendment and spreading misinformation about abortion care. As a result, Floridians will continue to endure the state’s deeply unpopular and harmful abortion ban that puts our health and safety at risk, with the impact falling hardest on Latinas/es and other communities of color.
Rest assured, we won’t stand by while extremists take away our freedoms. At the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice, we will fight for and protect our Latino/e communities in Florida, and will continue to build power here and across the country so that everyone has access to the healthcare they need, including abortion care. The election may be over, but our work will continue. We won’t stop until we create a country with true reproductive justice for all.
