30 Years of Latina Institute, Nuestra Historia, Nuestro Poder Celebration
Last week, Latina Institute came together with staff, Poderoses, community members, and allies for our End of Year 30th Anniversary event Nuestras Historias, Nuestro Poder. It was more than just an event—it was a celebration of Latine resilience, power, and the stories that shape us. You could feel the energy and joy in the room: an undeniable sense of hope, connection, and determination to continue fighting for a more just future.
Our former Executive Director, New York State Representative Jessica González-Rojas shared about her journey at Latina Institute. She contributed 14 years to the organization and went on to run for office. She spoke about how proud she was of the organization in the rebrand and transition over to our current Executive Director and the work done despite a global pandemic.
Throughout the event the crowd was laughing and sharing stories of how they got involved with Latina Institute. We all came together in a vibrant space filled with hope, joy, and a shared commitment to justice. We reflected on the progress we’ve made and recommitted ourselves to the work that lies ahead.
Our Board Chair, Brenda Vaden, captured this sentiment beautifully, saying:“We remain committed to shaping and driving narratives of Latines that are rooted in our power and our contributions. We show up with an endless hope towards a future where we thrive, free from the fear of losing our rights, and where our voices lead the movement for justice.”
As we reflected on the past 30 years, there was an overwhelming sense of pride in how far we’ve come. From our beginnings to where we are now, we’ve never lost sight of our mission: to amplify Latine voices, fight for equity, and build a future where our communities thrive.
This anniversary wasn’t just about looking back—it was about looking ahead. Together, we’ve built something extraordinary, and together, we’ll continue to shape a future rooted in justice, dignity, and hope.
Here’s to the next 30 years of stories, power, and progress. Let’s keep showing up, sharing our truths, and fighting for the future we all deserve.
