ORGANIZATIONAL DESCRIPTION: Founded in 1994, the mission of the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health (NLIRH) is to build Latina power to guarantee the fundamental human right to reproductive health, dignity and justice. We elevate Latina leaders, mobilize our families and communities, transform the cultural narrative and catalyze policy change. NLIRH is the only national reproductive justice organization dedicated to advancing health, dignity, and justice for the 29 million Latinas, their families, and communities in the United States.
 
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Development intern will get firsthand experience in assisting our Development team with the transition of our Executive Director. This is an opportunity to learn the ins and outs of fundraising for a social justice organization as we open a new chapter in our work. In addition to our ongoing donor cultivation strategies, the Development team will look to the intern for support as we ensure our donors remain informed of our leadership transition process. As part of the on the job training process, this candidate will work closely with their supervisor on projects, presentations, and other necessary tasks specific to the Development department. Responsibilities may include but will not be limited to: learning about the funding needs and NLIRH work and programs; donor/issue area research; and supporting grant writing, donor outreach, and cultivation events.

Adaptable, Reliable, and Flexible: You can handle any curveball, and in fact, you plan for them. Additionally, you are strategic and have the ability to pivot quickly as priorities shift and the team continues to take shape.

What You Will Need to be Successful:
  • Demonstrated ability to write in a clear, structured, and persuasive manner;
  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office required; graphics design skills are a plus;
  • Excellent time-management skills and an ability to prioritize and multi-task;
  • Familiarity with fundraising, nonprofits, and/or reproductive justice or the desire to learn more about them. Prior experience with development work is a plus; and 
  • Spanish skills are a plus.
Location:  Washington, DC
 
Hours: 15-20 hours per week Feb – May; potential to extend depending on performance
 
Compensation: $15 per hour
