Latina Institute 30th Anniversary Kick off
We started this year off with an incredible party to kick off Latina Institute's 30th anniversary celebrations with the theme of Nuestras Historias, Nuestro Poder.
We started this year off with an incredible party in Washington D.C. to kick off Latina Institute’s 30th anniversary celebrations. The room was PACKED!
Poderosas from the area were joined by special guests Sandra Guzmán, author of Daughters of Latin America: An International Anthology of Writing by Latine Women. We were also joined by DJ Karen Santana, an awardee of El Mundo Boston Latino 30 under 30. And our Executive Director, Lupe M. Rodríguez!
The event took place on January 18th at 6pm at the Eaton Workshop in Washington D.C..
The speakers had great conversations around bodily autonomy and understanding how to talk about our own needs, wants, and passing down that empowerment to our families. The topic of difficult conversations with family members and the impact it makes was discussed. Most importantly we talked about why we do this work, why reproductive justice means so much to all of us.
Attendees were able to hear about the impact that sharing stories can make. It was a beautiful testament to the power of our comunidad and creating spaces like it for folks to get together, share stories, and learn from one another.
And don’t worry if you weren’t in the area or couldn’t attend: We’ll continue our 30th anniversary celebrations throughout the year with author features, events, and so much more!
