Anti-abortion rights group: “Single most dangerous place for a Latina … is in her mother’s womb”

There are a lot places and people in the United States that could be considered dangerous. But for one anti-abortion-rights group, it’s with her mother.
“Today, clearly the single most dangerous place for a Latina in these United States is in her mother’s womb,” said Raimundo Rojas, Hispanic outreach coordinator for the National Right to Life Committee, an anti-abortion rights group, during the group’s endorsement in Washington this morning of Republican presumptive nominee Mitt Romney.
Rojas cited the disproportionate rate of abortions in the Hispanic community as a reason for the Latino community to support Romney over President Barack Obama.
Women’s groups issued statements saying they were outraged by these statements today.
“It is unacceptable to use inflammatory and divisive language based on race to push an ideological agenda. Mitt Romney simply can’t be trusted when it comes to women’s health.” said Destiny Lopez, director of Latino engagement for Planned Parenthood Federation of America. “Americans want a president who values and protects women’s health, not one that plays politics with women’s health.”
Jessica González-Rojas, executive director of the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health, said today’s event was nothing more than “a political ploy designed to stigmatize Latinas and restrict access to reproductive health.”
Rojas also attacked what he called the “looming tragic reality” of “ObamaCare,” saying coverage would be denied, because of the “junta of bureaucrats.”
Despite Romney’s earlier pro-abortion-rights stance, the group said it was endorsing Romney, because, “It is now time for pro-life Americans to unite,” said Carol Tobias, president of the group. “While some would like to call into question Mitt Romney’s pro-life position, let me state clearly and emphatically, Mitt Romney is pro-life.”
She continued, “The pro-life movement is filled with converts, and we consider Mitt Romney to be one of those. I mean he did support abortion early on in his political career. But Ronald Reagan was pro-abortion early on in his career. We love people who have changed their position. I certainly expect pro-lifers to actively campaign for Mitt Romney and defeat Barack Obama.”
