Supreme Court Decision a Setback for Reproductive Justice

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of the National Institute of Family and Life Advocates in the NIFLA v. Becerra case. The case concerns a California law, known as the Reproductive FACT Act, an attempt to ensure that pregnant people are not defrauded by harmful fake clinics, or “crisis pregnancy centers,” as they call themselves. The Reproductive FACT Act also ensures that patients can actually get the care they need.

Jessica González-Rojas, executive director of the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health, issued the following statement:

“This misguided decision is not based on the reality faced by pregnant people in California and across the country.  Fake clinics intentionally deceive individuals, inflicting real harm on people who are pregnant and their families each day in communities across the country. While today’s decision is a setback, we will not stop until everyone has access to all the information they need to make the best decisions for themselves, their families, and their communities. NLIRH will continue to fight until fake clinics are held accountable for their lies, deception, and the harm they impose on pregnant people’s health and timely access to care.”
