Zarah is a senior in Columbia College majoring in Neuroscience and Behavior. Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Zarah is interested in global health and medicine, specifically in the realm of maternal and child health. At Columbia, she co-founded a chapter of Global Brigades, a non-profit focused on global health and sustainable development that mobilizes students to empower communities in the developing world. As part of Global Brigades, she has planned two service trips to Honduras for over 30 students to hold free health clinics in rural communities and take part in construction projects designed to reduce risks for various illnesses.
She has also spent two years working in the Taub Institute at the Columbia University Medical Center studying the molecular mechanisms of neural death in Alzheimer's Disease and Stroke. In the future, she plans to attend medical school and pursue a career in international public health and medicine to provide healthcare to underserved communities.
