Nicole Cata is a junior in Columbia College. She is majoring in English and Comparative Literature and concentrating in human rights and French. She hopes to use her interdisciplinary degree to inform her career as a human rights attorney. On campus, Nicole is a clarinet player for the Columbia University Marching Band, the treasurer of Tablet - the Undergraduate Literary Magazine, and an Urgent Action Coordination deputy for the Columbia chapter of Amnesty International. During the school year, Nicole is employed as an administrative assistant at the Center for the Study of Human Rights and as a debate judge for her alma mater, Hendrick Hudson High School. She has also worked as a Residential Counselor for Columbia's Academic Success Summer Bridge Program. She traveled to Paris in the fall of 2009 to study French language, history, and culture. A New York native, Nicole likes to take long walks throughout New York City with her best friends in her spare time.
