Latina Week of Action for Reproductive Justice: Virtual Cafecito

As part of the 2nd Annual Latina Week of Action for Reproductive Rights, please join the National Coalition for Immigrant Women’s Rights (NCIWR) to discuss the important roles that immigrant women play in our communities and the increasing pressures they are experiencing with hostility and negative rhetoric meant to demonize them. This important phone call will discuss the negative rhetoric and the harmful programs that have stemmed from it. We will also give listeners a sneak preview of the Right to Liberty, Right to Family campaign that NCIWR will be launching in the fall. Read more »

What's going on with Medicaid? The impact of federal budget cuts on Latinas

Medicaid is the cornerstone of health care for low-income Americans; more than 58 million individuals are currently enrolled in Medicaid, including 13 million Latino adults and 9 million Latino children.

Roundtable on 14th Amendment Attacks

However, lawmakers are attempting to unravel citizenship laws by stigmatizing women and families. NCIWR is the only national coalition established to specifically focus on gender issues in this public debate. Like all women in our society, immigrant women deserve equality, dignity, and human rights. Virtual cafecito: Reproductive Justice, Latinas and the 112th Congress

The November 2010 election was a mixed result for Latinas and reproductive health, but one message came through: Latino/as are a powerful and active voting bloc. Unfortunately, the new leadership in the House of Representatives have indicated their intent to drastically limit access and affordability of abortions, and have also taken aim at the health care reform law. But with progressive strongholds elected in California and other allies nationwide, opportunities do exist to continue reform focused on those most in need. Read more »
