January is cervical cancer awareness month.
Did you know? Cervical Cancer is nearly 100% preventable, yet 12,000 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cervical cancer this year.
Join Tamika and Friends, The National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health, and Cervical Cancer Prevention Works/The Coalition of Labor Union Women on Tuesday, January 25th for an informal chat on cervical cancer and Latinas.
Latinas suffer from cervical cancer at an inordinate rate compared to women of other racial/ethnic background. Approximately 4,000 women die of cervical cancer annually with Latina deaths representing a proportion nearly 40% higher than that of non-Latino women. Screening tests may help to reduce as many as 80-85% of these deaths. However, Latinas’ screening participation rates are very low, signifying a call to action.
Learn how YOU can prevent cervical cancer. This will be a conversation about what you don’t know about sex and were afraid to ask! We will be speaking in both Spanish and English, and we will mix 'girl talk' with party fun to help women speak comfortably and frankly about their sexual health.
Refreshments provided!
We promise the evening will be both educational and fun! We will provide goodies that you can pass on to your family and friends.
Party Coordinators:
- Kimberly Williams, Tamika and Friends
- Rebecca Medina, National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health
