Letter to Leader McConnell, Leader Schumer, Speaker Ryan, and Leader Pelosi Abolish & Defund ICE

On July 3, 2018, the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health, In Our Own Voice: National Black Women’s Reproductive Justice Agenda, and the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum led a letter signed by nearly 90 organizations to congressional leadership calling for Congress to end the Administration’s relentless attacks on immigrant families by abolishing the immigrant detention system, including defunding the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency. The latest attack on immigrant women and families include the Trump administration's so-called “zero tolerance” policy prosecuting lawful asylum-seekers, forcibly separating children from their parents, and Trump’s Executive Order to indefinitely detain families in prison-life facilities. The letter also highlights the gross violation that indefinite family detention and family separation is to the tenets of reproductive justice by infringing on immigrants’ basic human right to parent without fear of violence and persecution. In addition, it addresses how family separation policy is just one more step in a long line of vicious attacks on immigrant women and families by the Trump Administration. The organizations listed as signatories are committed to protecting the health and dignity of women and all people, including immigrants, refugees, and their families.
