ONE YEAR AFTER THE PULSE MASSACRE, LATINO LEADERS PLEDGE TO REMEMBER LIVES LOST

WASHINGTON, D.C. – One year ago today, 49 innocent lives were taken by a gunman at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida. NHLA stands in solidarity with our LGBTQ and Latino/x communities to mourn, honor, and remember those lost, injured, and traumatized in the only mass murder of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people in this country.

The National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health Denounces President Trump’s Nominee for the Supreme Court

Washington, D.C. — The National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health opposes President Trump’s nomination of Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court. Judge Gorsuch's judicial record is hostile toward LGBTQ people and women. He has repeatedly ruled against employees in discrimination cases and sided with employers who have sought to deny women access to vital contraceptive care. As we celebrate that marriage equality is the law of the land, we must continue our work of achieving full equality for all of our communities, including our fight for accessible healthcare.  Last year during PRIDE, the same Supreme Court had decided that Hobby Lobby and other similar employers could deny contraceptive coverage to their employees on the basis of their religious beliefs.  As a Latina who works on these issues, I knew that Hobby Lobby would only worsen the current “minefield” of access to health care for Latinas/os, particularly for LGBTQ Latinas and Latinos.
