Latina Health Advocates Applaud Reintroduction of the Women’s Health Protection

Texas Court Protects Planned Parenthood Medicaid Funding

Washington, D.C. —Yesterday, Texas Judge Sparks preliminarily blocked the state’s attempt to ban Planned Parenthood health centers from Medicaid funding. There are nearly 11,000 Medicaid patients in Texas who rely on Planned Parenthood’s preventive services including birth control, cancer screenings, and sexually transmitted disease testing and treatment. Texas's attempt to bar Planned Parenthood from Medicaid would only deny patients quality, affordable healthcare and further marginalize those who already face many systemic barriers to essential and lifesaving care.

The National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health Celebrates Gov. McAuliffe Veto of HB 2264

Washington, D.C. — Yesterday, Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe has vetoed HB 2264, a dangerous bill that aimed to prohibit the Virginia Department of Health from providing funds or grants to facilities that provide abortions. HB 2264 was a direct attack against Planned Parenthood and similar health centers that offer the full-range of reproductive healthcare services. Defunding Planned Parenthood health centers in Virginia would have a devastating impact on the Latinx community. In 2014 alone, 23 percent of Planned Parenthood patients in the U.S.

Washington, D.C. — Yesterday, the Florida Supreme Court continued to block a 2015 measure that forces women to delay for 24 hours and make two separate trips before she is able to obtain a safe and legal abortion. Nationwide trends of restrictive and medically unnecessary laws at the state level make it harder for a woman to access abortion care and harder for doctors and clinics to provide that care.
