Kathy Bird Carvajal serves as the Florida LAN Field and Advocacy Manager where she oversees base building, advances civic engagement strategies, and assists in campaign development and implementation. Before joining the NLIRH team, Kathy was with SEIU FL in Broward County where she oversaw a team of organizers and led a base building strategy that achieved local policy wins in immigrant, criminal and economic justice. Before that, she spent close to 4 years organizing with the Florida Immigrant Coalition where she drove a number of successful campaigns including “CCA Go Away” a campaign that stopped the building of a for-profit immigration detention center in SW Ranches, FL. Kathy has been active in labor and community organizing and has also managed field campaigns for numerous election cycles.  Kathy is Ecuadorian-American and was raised and educated in Ecuador and Miami, FL where she graduated from Florida International University.
