Aracely Garcia comes to NLIRH with over 5 years of community organizing and progressive advocacy experience. For over 2 years she worked at the office of Texas State Senator Sylvia Garcia as a scheduler then as a Community Liaison. As a Community Liaison she covered local community issues of the district as well as Reproductive Rights, Immigration, Education, LGTBQ Equality, and Transportation. While working in the office of Senator Garcia she also worked part-time for the Texas Senate Hispanic Caucus where she helped organize 8 Latino Legislative Policy Summits in different cities across Texas. While earning her bachelor’s degree at the University of Houston-Downtown, she worked with the Texas Freedom Network as a student organizer advocating for issues including civic engagement, LGBTQ Equality and Reproductive Justice. Her projects at TFN included reducing abortion stigma through the 1-in-3 Campaign and organizing efforts to help pass the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance. During her time with Texas Freedom Network, she earned the Organizer of the Year Award in 2015. She is currently a volunteer with the Clinic Access Support Network, and she serves on their events and fundraising committee. Aracely received a Bachelor’s in Political Science at the University of Houston-Downtown in Houston, TX.
