Stephanie Alvarado
At NLIRH, Stephanie is in charge of supporting, fostering and cultivating the development of Latina Advocacy Networks (LAN) located in different states around the nation. She also identifies, builds, and develops a diverse group of Latina leaders and activists to organize around Reproductive Justice issues at a local, state, and national level.
Since high school, Stephanie has been civically engaged within her Bronx community in various ways from starting her own mentoring program in high school for young Latinas to mentoring autistic children for several years. Throughout her undergraduate career at New York University, Stephanie played an integral role in the Latino community at NYU by co-founding the first Dominican student organization on campus called Bella Quisqueya, who won the 2007-2008 President's Service Award. She was also the 2007-2008 President of L.U.C.H.A., the largest and oldest Latino organization at NYU, where she helped execute cultural, educational, political, and community service oriented programming. Not only has Stephanie been very active within the NYU community, but also outside of NYU by starting a mentoring and educational group called the Strive Boxing Program in Harlem, which aims to mentor and educate youth of color on their history, self esteem, health, and future aspirations. Stephanie holds a Bachelors degree in Psychology and Latino Studies from NYU.
