Latina Week of Action for Reproductive Justice

The first annual Latina Week of Action for Reproductive Justice was a huge success! Thanks to everyone who took part and took action.
Along with California Latinas for Reproductive Justice and the Colorado Organization for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights we set out to bring our issues and our voices from the margin to the center.
At NLIRH, we focused on the issue of contraception. More than 200 emails were sent to Congress demanding access to affordable contraception for Latinas and all women. Our Latina Advocacy Networks in Texas, Florida and Minnesota held letter writing campaigns which resulted in over 1000 letters that were sent to Congress as well.
Over 20 blog posts were written, telling our stories about reproductive justice and contraception.
We hosted events around the country, in Colorado, Florida, California, Minnesota, Texas and New York and you came out to support the work.
We can't wait to engage with you again next year. In the meantime, we'll be continuing our fight for reproductive justice!
It's been a busy year. From health care reform to immigration enforcement and our the dialogue about young motherhood, we've been going non-stop in 2010.
We've raised our voices on many issues that matter to Latina's and our work continues. As we move into the mid-term elections in November, it's more crucial than ever that Latinas and our allies speak out about the issues that matter to us.
That's why the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health, California Latinas for Reproductive Justice and the Colorado Organization for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights have teamed up to host the First Annual Latina Week of Action for Reproductive Justice on August 9-15.
We're coordinating our efforts, energizing supporters and making our voices heard on the issues that matter to us most.
There are FOUR ways to get involved:
1. Take Action: Demand affordable and accessible birth control!
It wouldn't be a week of action without an action right?
We've been pushing the Administration and our Congressmembers to make sure that contraception and family planning are included as preventative care in the new health care reform law.
We've still got a way to go, which is why we need you to TAKE ACTION now!
2. What's your contraception story?
All this week we'll be hosting an online conversation about Latinas and contraception.
We're hosting a blog carnival with participation from RH Reality Check, Ms. Magazine blog, Viva La Feminista, Amplify, VivirLatino, Akimbo and more. Check out our blog Nuestra Vida, Nuestra Voz for the latest posts.
We'll be on Facebook and Twitter each day, talking about the issues that affect us as Latinas.
Join us and share your story!
3. Support the Latina Reproductive Justice Movement
Fundraising is always a key part of any successful movement. To keep this work going, we need your help!
During the Week of Action donate $38 to help NLIRH fight for the accessibility of essential reproductive health services for Latinas in our health care reform campaign. 38% of Latinas are uninsured and if we aren't insured, we can't access the services we need.
Please donate today.
4. Join us at an event in NYC, Miami, Los Angeles or Denver!
We've got events happening in four cities around the country to celebrate the week of action and get involved.
